The Gilligan’s Island (or Ginger’s Classic) Martini:
3 ounces vodka
1-ounce ginger syrup: mini recipe below
The simplest way to mix is to pour into an ice-filled glass, stir and drain. Or, drink on ice.
Ginger Syrup
2 tablespoons ground or fresh ginger
½ cup sugar
2 cups water
Stir water and sugar in pan, bring to boil. Whisk in ground ginger, reduce heat to simmer, continue to stir for 10 minutes.
The Flu-Hattan
2.5 ounces bourbon
1.5 tablespoons sweet vermouth
1.5 tablespoons elderberry syrup
Pour ingredients in ice-filled glass, stir and drain. Or, drink on ice.
The C19 Mule
1.5 ounces vodka
3.5 ounces ginger beer or ginger ale
1 ounce ginger syrup: See mini-recipe above.
Serve over ice.
The Screw-Corona-Driver
2.5 ounces vodka
4 ounces orange juice
Serve over ice.
The Green Tea Teetotaler (non-alcoholic)
2 ounces green tea
4 ounces club soda
1 tablespoon honey
Lemon garnish
Mix together, serve over ice.
Also, you could add 1 ounce of vodka and reduce the amount of club soda…just saying.
Finally, you don’t have to drink your Quarantini alone. Of course, you should absolutely observe the national and state government advisories to self-isolate by staying home. However, the virtual meeting tool Zoom is free and enables you to have a virtual happy hour with friends and family. Or, if the weather is nice, and you and your neighbors are symptom-free, why not try a driveway drink with your handicap van on proud display? Stay outside, keep to the mandate to remain six feet apart, and have a social-distance-approved drink together.
And remember to drink responsibly.

Quarantini Recipes for Everyone!
Mobility and Moonshine, BraunAbility and Bourbon – Your Guide to “Immune-Boosting” Quarantinis
In 2020, the coronavirus continues its relentless rampage through the world, and as the United States surpasses everyone in confirmed cases, Americans are looking for ways to cope. CNN recently released an article that reported Nielsen data showed a 55% jump in alcohol sales for the 3rd week in March versus the same week in 2019.
While many in our disability community abstain from alcohol for health or other personal reasons, there are many of us who enjoy the occasional cocktail. Of course it’s worth mentioning we don’t condone drinking and driving, even with that beautiful wheelchair accessible vehicle languishing in the driveway, but in the comfort of our homes, we can make the most of the latest social distancing trend: “Quarantinis”.
Just so we’re all on the same page, let’s break it down: quarantine meets martini = Quarantini.
Though the modern martini typically is as simple as vodka and vermouth (gin for we old school purists), COVID-19 has increased our focus on health and wellness, and so we’ve looked for immune-boosting twists on classic cocktails of all types. The wisdom of the internet would suggest that ginger, green tea, elderberry, and oranges - among others - have many “illness-fighting or preventative” benefits. We don’t know about that, but a few of them sure do taste good. So, we’ll give you some recipes that we’ve devised in-house during our stay-at-home / work-from-home experience.
Disclaimer: the following recipes have not been evaluated to improve overall health or increase immune response or protection against the novel coronavirus. These are just for fun, and in trying times, it’s important to still have some fun.
