Engineering Independence at Our North America Manufacturing Locations

The life-changing products that impact millions of people with mobility challenges around the world all come from the work of our North America Manufacturing (NAM) teams.

Your Future Role: Changing Lives at BraunAbility

The NAM division of BraunAbility consists of three locations: Mt. Carmel, IL; Tyler, TX; and our global manufacturing headquarters in Winamac, IN, the hometown of our founder, Ralph Braun. Each location features a variety of positions, from engineering to hands-on assembly to distribution channel management.

Drive Your Career Forward in Winamac, IN

BraunAbility traces its roots to the determined spirit of our founder, Ralph Braun. Diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy, Ralph invented the world's first electric scooter, and later, the first accessible vehicle—a postal Jeep with a wheelchair lift. Today, our consumer manufacturing plant in Winamac remains the heart of BraunAbility, producing wheelchair accessible vans and SUVs to make life a moving experience for the millions of people living with mobility disabilities around the world.

Cruise Into Career Excellence in Mt. Carmel, IL

At our Mt. Carmel, IL, location, our production team works to make our adaptive vehicle seating products including our transfer seat base, and swivel car seats like the Turny Evo and Turny Orbit. Here, production employees build vehicle seats that swivel, raise, and lower to help people with mobility impairments get in and out of their vehicle.

Gear Up for Success in Tyler, Texas

Meet Our Employees

Shawn Scott entered our workforce on the factory floor in roles related to vehicle assembly and fabrication. Over the past 30 years, he has held multiple leadership roles overseeing key areas in the plant. Today, his role encompasses various divisions, all with specific functions to produce life-changing mobility solutions.

In his early years at BraunAbility, Shawn remembers the company’s founder, Ralph Braun. He says Ralph instilled in him our company values and was a visible reminder that our products change lives for people. He said, “We change lives. Not every job you have in life can say that. Whoever you are here, you're helping somebody.”

Monica began as a planning and scheduling clerk and later shifted to vehicle production. Eventually, her skill and leadership led her to her current role where she oversees the movement of parts across the immense factory.

Along with over 20 years of experience, Monica brings a combination of empathy and assertiveness to her leadership position and appreciates BraunAbility recognizing her skills and continuing to promote her. Today she’s a role model for the new employees, especially women, who are building their careers at BraunAbility.

Monica Potthoff, from Associate Director of Material Control

Cara started as a general laborer in the Powder Coat Department. Her leadership skills flourished in the role - an ability she attributes to being a mother. Eventually, she grew from a leader on the production floor to a Product Specialist in Marketing, helping hundreds of potential and current customers to understand BraunAbility products.

Cara recently went back to college with the assistance of BraunAbility's tuition reimbursement program and plans to use her education and experience to grow into more leadership roles at the company.

Cara, from employee

“When I first came to BraunAbility, coming right out of being with Chrysler, the environment was so much better than what I left and I remember thinking,’ wow, this is great.’ The people, what we do, being very autonomous with my work – I  was able to do the things that I felt were best for us and our business,” Steve said.

He said, “[BraunAbility has] changed a tremendous amount. We were given the resources to expand, to acquire new businesses just like we have here in Texas, and having those additional resources has really helped the company grow and given employees additional opportunities.”
