Veteran Support

“Serving our nation’s veterans is our greatest honor, whether through supporting our local PVA chapters to ensure veterans have access to programs and resources that improve their quality of life or by helping them find their ideal mobility solutions,” says John Beering, United Access President. “Veterans have served to protect our freedom and it is our privilege to help them discover their mobility freedom.”

United Access is a proud partner of national organizations such as Paralyzed Veterans of America, Wounded Warriors and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

2021 PVA Corporate Patriot Award

In May 2021, the Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) announced United Access and the Karyn and Richard May Foundation as the recipients of the 2021 PVA Corporate Patriot Award.

The PVA Corporate Patriot Award recognizes a donor’s significant contribution toward furthering the goals and mission of PVA and its chapters/regions through financial support and resource commitment over the past five years. United Access was nominated by the ST. Louis PVA Gateway Chapter.

“United Access and the Karyn and Richard May Foundation’s generosity have significantly enhanced our ability to carry out our mission to support deserving veterans with spinal cord injuries or diseases,” said Stanley D. Brown, national director and president, PVA Gateway Chapter. “Their support has enabled us to provide grants for accessible vehicles and housing, as well as sponsor recreational events that help veterans live life to the fullest.”

United Access has supported various PVA events and programs, from golf tournaments to the St. Louis VA Local Wheelchair Games, for the past 20 years. Additionally, in 2017 the newly formed Karyn and Richard May Foundation made a gift of $20,000 to the PVA Gateway Chapter.

Learn About Our Veteran Benefits

Did you know that you can access funds from the VA to purchase a wheelchair accessible van?

We proudly support our veterans at United Access. In order to fully support you and your needs, we work closely with the Department of Veteran Affairs regarding automobile grants for handicap-accessible vehicles. United Access offers the expertise necessary to assist you in processing wheelchair van grants through the VA. Further, we proudly support our customers and employees who served this country. We offer support by fundraising, supporting local events, and volunteering with organizations dedicated to honoring our veterans.

The Veterans’ Administration offers a one-time veterans automobile grant of $23,355.72 for 100% Service Connected Veterans that meet stringent guidelines. Talk to your VA counselor or prosthetics doctor for more information. Veterans who are 100% Service Connected are eligible for two handicap vehicle conversions every four years or one every two years. Veterans that trade their modified vehicle in every two years typically have less out-of-pocket expense getting into a new wheelchair van than a veteran that trades at a later date. The Veterans’ Administration will allow for the purchase of a pre-owned wheelchair van using their depreciation schedule for reimbursement.

Eligibility Requirements (Automobile Grant)

  • Loss, or permanent loss of use, of one or both feet
  • Loss, or permanent loss of use, of one or both hands
  • Permanent impairment of vision in both eyes to a certain degree

Please contact your local United Access store to help you understand your potential level of assistance and to connect you with the proper individual at your local VA.
