Karl Beck - Sales, Clearwater Florida

I was hired by Ralph Braun in 1976, about a year after I graduated from Purdue University in Fort Wayne, Indiana. After six months in Winamac, I was transferred to the newly created Florida Division in Clearwater. Although I am primarily a sales guy, I also do product support work, customer service, and help to manage the office in Clearwater. When I’m not doing BraunAbility work, I work around the house and have a collection of artsy little hobbies, including working with metals and painting. My wife, Victoria, and I have a son, Michael, in law school. I've either played or coached wheelchair basketball for 20 years. I’ve assisted the Miss Wheelchair Florida Pageant including being a judge four times, and was appointed to a six year term on Florida’s Rehabilitation Advisory Commission in 1993. About 20 years ago I began writing a monthly column in Paraplegia News magazine covering motor vehicle adaptations. I now write a similar column semi-monthly in New Mobility magazine. Folks have asked me if after 30 plus years I ever get bored in this job. I don’t because our products, like all things automotive, are constantly changing. Keeping up with this technology requires me to constantly learn about this industry and our new products. Like the other writing I’ve done, I hope my AbilityVoice pieces will help keep our customers informed and help them to discover how the new technology helps meet their transportation needs.
