Wheelchair Vans: Buying Direct vs. Buying Local - pt. 3 of 6

Posted by Jack on Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

Our video series with Assistive Technology Specialist Burnie Blackmon continues as we focus on another important aspect of the wheelchair van buying process: making sure the van will work for you! While that may seem like a no-brainer, choosing adaptive transportation is more difficult than you may realize, especially if you’re trying to do it sight-unseen.  A multitude of factors need to be taken into account, from the type and size of your chair, to where you will drive the van, to who will travel with you - all this and a few hundred other details will affect your decision.

In this segment, Burnie relates a cautionary tale from the early days of the Ability Industry that drives this very important point home: buying a handicap van or wheelchair lift is not a one-size-fits-all proposition.  Each van or lift must be custom-fitted to meet the unique needs of the individual.  Whether it’s installing important add-ons such as hand controls, power transfer seats or electric tie-downs for your wheelchair, you will need face-to-face interaction with your local BraunAbility Dealer to build a system that will work best for you.
