BraunAbility Partners with Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace Thought Leaders

BraunAbility's Drive for Inclusion program is all about building toward a more mobility-inclusive society, whether that's parking abuse awareness or disability employment inclusion. JP Morgan Chase and Microsoft both joined BraunAbility on different disability inclusion efforts.

Jim Sinocchi, Head of Disability Inclusion at JP Morgan Chase (and a 3x BraunAbility customer!), joined BraunAbility CEO Staci Kroon for a disability employment discussion attended by business and nonprofit leaders in the Indianapolis area. The Q&A session touched on the benefits of hiring people with disabilities as well as the challenges of getting job applications in front of the right candidates.

Microsoft painted two Drive for Inclusion 3D access aisles at their headquarters in Redmond, WA, to protect the access aisles in front of their employee wellness center. Microsoft Chief Officer of Accessibility Jenny Lay Flurrie points to the 3D spaces as one visible way to make workplaces more inclusive in a Microsoft blog about NDEAM.

“If we empower employees with disabilities to bring all their expertise to the table, it leads to amazing innovation,” says Lay Flurrie.

This year’s National Disability Employment Awareness Month theme is “The Right Talent, Right Now,” meaning now is the time to recognize the specific talents a diverse workforce brings to the table. Show your support by sharing that message on your own social media channels, and of course, please be sure to share Drive for Inclusion content from our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter feeds. Of course, the best way to take action is by joining The Driving Force and helping us make sure the voices of people with mobility challenges are heard!

The Right Talent, Right Now – Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace

Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace

On Oct. 1, 2019, BraunAbility celebrated the grand opening of our new global headquarters in Carmel, IN. That date was chosen intentionally because October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month. In addition to officially opening the Carmel office, we also announced a commitment to increase the representation of candidates with disabilities within our workforce and ensuring a work environment that is accessible for those with mobility challenges.

Of course, BraunAbility was founded by a wheelchair user, and we have a passion for making life a moving experience for our customers and their families. It’s time to shift that passion inward and ensure we’re consistently recruiting and developing talent of all ability levels. That’s why our new headquarters was designed with input from people with mobility challenges to ensure the entire workspace is accommodating and accessible. The new office features:

  • Doorways with a minimum of 36" width: some as wide as 42" (ADA requires 32")
  • Conference rooms equipped with automatic, powered sliding doors
  • All desks are height-adjustable
  • A private, accessible, companion aid restroom available to employees and vistors
  • Braille signage installed in all public spaces
  • Extra-wide pathways throughout the building to offer a large turning radius for people who use wheelchairs
  • A 3D illusion access aisle installed in the parking lot to deter parking misuse
