Pennsylvania native Kristen Cameron was a grad student and hockey coach when she was struck by a drunk driver while riding her bike. The driver was going an estimated 60 mph when he collided with Kristen and he only stopped to check for damage on his own car.

Kristen was paralyzed from the chest down, but instead of harboring her rightful anger, she recovered and launched herself into her new life. She visits local schools with her service dog, Fido, where she talks about the dangers of drunk driving. She also promptly went back to school to finish her master’s degree in Organizational Leadership.

Kristen has shown persistence and vision after the accident and didn’t let anything get in the way of her dreams for the future. For this, she was a perfect candidate for the Spirit of Ability Award, proving she is an immovable force.
