BraunAbility Dealer, Advanced Mobility, Comes to the Rescue
This Thanksgiving was not a time of celebration for Patricia Gibson and her family. Her father passed away last week, and while her family gathered at his side to say their good-byes, the quadriplegic remained confined to her bed in Garland, Texas, just as she has for most of the past 27 years. As memorial and funeral plans were made, the family was desperate to find a way to get Patricia out of her home and to the services. The family has a van with a lift, but it was too run-down to make the trip. They contacted Advanced Mobility in nearby Mesquite last Wednesday – the day before Thanksgiving – to see if there was a van available to rent. “We have 14 rental wheelchair vans, and every one of them was rented out for the holiday weekend,” said Mike Shipka, manager of the dealership. Advanced Mobility called the renters to see if any would be able to bring their van back a day early so Gibson could attend the services on Friday and Saturday. No luck.
Just when the dealership was about to add one of their used vans to their insurance policy so the Gibson family could make the trip, they had a rental cancelation. Advanced Mobility quickly made arrangements to bring the Entervan to Patricia’s home. Mike Shipka delivered the van, which was rented to the family free of charge. “We’re just grateful to be able to make a difference for people like Patricia,” said Shipka. “It doesn’t matter what the situation is, we’re here to help.” Patricia made it to her father’s memorial service and funeral and said her good-byes in person.
Just like the Gibson family, we’re extremely grateful for the generosity of our dealers.
