Wheelchair Accessible Van Rentals

If you want to try before you buy, or rent a handicap van for a vacation, special occasion, doctor’s appointment, or whatever the need, every Ability Center store location has wheelchair accessible vans for daily, weekly, and long-term rent. Please work with your local store for specific pricing and terms.

What do I need to rent a wheelchair accessible van?

Pickup & return dates and times
Be at least 18 years of age
The size/make of the wheelchair to be accommodated
A valid driver’s license
A major credit or debit card
An insurance card showing up-to-date comprehensive and collision automobile insurance
Your handicap placard

You’ll find every wheelchair-accessible van at Ability Center for rent is well-kept and well-maintained. Our wheelchair van rentals include 100 miles per day. Additional miles are billed at $.25 per mile. Unfortunately, at this time we do not rent vehicles with hand controls.

Where can I rent my wheelchair accessible van?

You can rent a mobility van at all 18 Ability Center Locations which are conveniently located in Arizona, California, Florida, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington.

How much does it cost to rent a wheelchair accessible van?

Our wheelchair van rentals include 100 miles per day. Additional miles are billed at $.25 per mile. The cost of a wheelchair van rental varies by location. You can call your nearest Ability Center location to get a quote.

Does Medicare or insurance pay for handicap van rentals?

At this time Medicare does not cover the cost of a handicap van rental.

Can you rent vans with hand controls?

A wheelchair van cannot be rented with hand controls because hand controls are specially ordered and custom fit to your personal needs. If you would like to learn more about hand controls your local Ability Center can help you learn more.

Can I use my handicap placard in the rental car?

You can absolutely use your handicap placard in a rental car. State laws throughout the United States state that handicap permit holders are the only people that can legally use them. But a person can generally use a parking placard as either a driver or a passenger. This means placard holders can use them in another car if they are in the car at the time of use.

What does “try before I buy” mean?

Purchasing a wheelchair van is a big decision and investment.
