Mobility Options 101
If you're looking at your mobility options for the first time, don't be overwhelmed! We've got plenty of resources to help you through the process. Here are a few important points to start with.
Wheelchair or Scooter Accessible Vehicles
The majority of the wheelchair or scooter accessible vehicles on the market are minivans that have been converted to allow a wheelchair or scooter user to use the vehicle to meet their daily transportation needs. Some accessible vehicles can also be driven by the wheelchair user. These vehicles are designed to meet U.S. and Canadian government safety standards as well as the quality, reliability, and durability standards of the original automotive manufacturer.

The term "wheelchair lift" can either refer to a system that lifts the unoccupied wheelchair or scooter up and into the vehicle, or it can refer to a platform that lifts the occupied wheelchair or scooter up and into the vehicle. The key difference is whether the wheelchair or scooter user is physically able to stand or transfer from their chair to the vehicle.
BraunAbilty offers a product, called the Chair Topper, that lifts the unoccupied wheelchair and stores it in a compartment on the roof of the car. Click here for more information about the Chair Topper.
For those wheelchair or scooter users who might want or need a vehicle larger than a minivan, a full-sized van that's fitted with a wheelchair platform lift might be perfect. BraunAbility offers a wide range of wheelchair lift models. Click here for more information about wheelchair platform lifts.
